For the past few months, ever since Microsoft added Dolby Vision gaming to the Xbox Series X, I’ve been running stories about the problems the vast majority of TVs old and new have with accepting native 4K resolution, 120Hz frame rate Dolby Vision feeds. Today I can draw a line under one of these Dolby Vision 4K/120Hz threads, at least, by revealing the definitive list of LG TVs that can be or already have been upgraded to handle the Series X’s most cutting edge graphics.
LG was the first brand to enable Dolby Vision 4K 120Hz support on any of its TVs, while the silence on the subject from pretty much all of its rivals continues to be deafening. It’s also actually quite impressive in the context of the apathy from other brands just how many TVs – 14 series in all – LG has managed to get Dolby Vision at 4K/120Hz working on. Nonetheless, there will be LG TV owners who are going to feel disappointed by what LG stress is the ‘finalized list’ of applicable TV series and models below:
Z1 OLEDs (2021) – Firmware version (though this may vary by region) 03.15.28, Month of update: July
G1 OLEDs (2021) – Firmware version 03.15.27, Month of update: June
C1 OLEDs (2021) – Firmware version 03.15.27, Month of update: June
B1 OLEDs (2021) – Firmware version 03.20.30, Month of update: October

The most notable absentees from this list are the BX OLEDs, which run on a different platform to the other X-series OLEDs, and all of the 9 series OLEDs from 2019, despite these being LG’s only models to carry full 48Gbps-bandwidth HDMI ports.
If any other TV brands suddenly start to talk about definite 4K Dolby Vision 120Hz firmware updates, rest assured I’ll be covering it on my Forbes channel.
