Brock Lesnar Kicks off WWE Raw
As a cardigan connoisseur myself, I approve of Cardigan Brock Lesnar.
This crowd was completely on board with Brock Lesnar (who took time to greet members of the front row) winning the WWE Championship, and treated Paul Heyman like a complete heel.
Brock Lesnar was set to face Bobby Lashley inside Madison Square Garden, but Lashley is injured so that won’t be happening. Though it would be a waste of a debut, at a non-televised live event, let the Cody rumors begin.
Alpha Academy def. The Street Profits
Angelo Dawkins continues to have the most underrated comeback in all of wrestling.
Otis has really managed to incorporate elements of the old Otis in his character.
Montez Ford was about to slam Otis, and this crowd was ready to explode, only for Otis to fall on Ford and win the match. The finish took this match to potentially memorable to deflating.
Tommaso Ciampa and Finn Balor def. The Dirty Dawgz
Finn Balor is one of the few Raw stars who doesn’t dwarf Tommaso Ciampa, so he’s a solid choice to stand by Ciampa’s side as a tag team partner.
Poor Ciampa, I’m not sure any of these fans were even watching NXT 1.0. They just wanted to see Finn Balor.
The announce team played this up as an upset, and I couldn’t disagree more.
The Miz Introduces Logan Paul as his Tag Team Partner
The Miz trolled the crowd into thinking his mystery tag team partner was Cody Rhodes, calling him “dashing…”
This segment degenerated into a brawl just before the “we want Cody” chants started up.
Not only does Logan Paul have built-in heat with any crowd, but the fans were also disappointed that this wasn’t Cody Rhodes, so it was double the heat.
Rhea Ripley def. Nikki A.S.H.
Half of this match was Nikki A.S.H. ranting about Rhea Ripley being a bully.
This feud is almost as one-sided as The Usos vs. The Viking Raiders.
Damian Priest def. Shelton Benjamin
There were faint “Shelton” chants early on, though the pop wasn’t as loud as his South Carolina pop during his prime years.
Fans even chanted “let’s go Shelton” as Benjamin had Damian Priest in a headlock.
So does somebody have to beat both Damian and Priest in order to win the United States Championship?
Priest threw shade at Shelton Benjamin by saying he wants his next challenger to be “world championship caliber.” Then out walked Finn Balor.
Dana Brooke def. Reggie—WWE 24/7 Championship
Dana Brooke’s theme music is actually really good.
Reggie received the “what” treatment, yet he kept speaking in a cadence that allowed the crowd to “what” him, as opposed to steamrolling through the chants.
Reggie wouldn’t allow Dana Brooke to pin him, so she kissed him while pinning him and regained the 24/7 Title. In the process, she left her makeup all over his face.
Bianca Belair def. Doudrop with Becky Lynch on Commentary
This confrontation was awkward at times, but ultimately I liked it because it represented an actual argument.
Becky Lynch’s heel heat is finally starting to stick. This crowd unanimously booed her and cheered for Bianca, though some of that could have been crowd sweetening.
Bianca Belair and Doudrop have amazing chemistry. This was easily the match of the night to this point.
Bianca Belair slammed a super heavyweight twice, while poor Montez lost a match trying to do it once.
Edge Issues an Open Challenge at WrestleMania 38
These fans cheered Edge wildly for saying he was old.
This was another sit-down, storytelling promo from Edge. This week’s story was of Edge’s WrestleMania career.
Edge’s promo led to him saying “phenomenal,” suggesting he’ll be challenging AJ Styles. Surprisingly, there were no references to Cody Rhodes.
Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens def. RK-Bro
If Kevin Owens is defending the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania, then something went horribly wrong with the Stone Cold comeback.
As if his promos needed to be any more obnoxious, Seth Rollins has leaned into cackling in a way identical to Sasha Banks.
To the surprise of nobody, these four wrestled an incredible main event match.
