A Chinese language-American scholar was convicted in a Brooklyn court docket Tuesday after his work on behalf of Beijing as an unlawful agent was found.
Shujun Wang, an activist who based a pro-democracy group in New York, used his place to spy on dissidents and share data with the Chinese language authorities for over a decade.
Wang lived a double life on behalf of the Ministry of State Safety in Beijing, in accordance with prosecutors. By presenting himself as a pro-democracy and anti-Chinese language authorities activist, he may earn the belief of those that really maintain these views after which transmit their data.

The decision was determined by a federal jury Tuesday, who discovered Wang responsible of being an unlawful agent.

“The indictment could have been the plot of a spy novel, but the evidence is shockingly real that the defendant was a secret agent for the Chinese government,” U.S. Legal professional Breon Peace mentioned in an announcement to the Related Press.

Shujun Wang pleaded not responsible. Wang’s authorized crew argued that his transmissions might not have been on the management of Chinese language officers.
