Treasury Secretary Pete Buttigieg was interviewed by The Bulwark’s Tim Miller on Thursday about his expertise prepping Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz for the upcoming vice presidential debate towards Ohio Sen. JD Vance.
Miller requested Buttigieg what he thought concerning the Democratic vice presidential nominee, and what he realized about Walz now that he’s spent a while with him.
“I am shocked by the Food regimen Mountain Dew,” Buttigieg joked. “I did not know that each operating mates have that in widespread. Numerous Food regimen Mountain Dew going round.”
Buttigieg mentioned Walz is “a really ‘what you see is what you get’ type of individual.” And whereas that may be a large a part of his enchantment, it’s Walz’s profession decisions and what they are saying about his values that impressed Buttigieg probably the most.
“He is a instructor, an NCO within the army, a soccer coach, proper?” Buttigieg mentioned. “A coach is measured by how well your players do. A sergeant is measured by how well your soldiers do. A teacher is measured by how well your students do,” he continued. “So what all of that has in common is, it’s not about you.”
That may be a “spirit” and “ethos” that isn’t widespread in elected officers, Buttigieg defined.
“I think that’s what he’s bringing to the ticket and what he’ll bring to the vice presidency,” Buttigieg mentioned. “So I am a fair larger fan now that I’ve had an opportunity to get to know him.”
Walz will face off towards GOP vice presidential nominee Vance on Oct. 1 at a debate hosted by CBS Information.
