Hell hath no fury like the largest federation of unions in America scorned.
In response to “Nazi nepo baby” Elon Musk, AFL-CIO launched a marketing campaign on Wednesday referred to as the “Department of People Who Work for a Living,” or DPWL. The group plans to maintain Musk accountable for his unlawful takeover of the federal authorities via the Division of Authorities Effectivity and to “make sure the federal government is responsive to working people and not just to the whims of an unelected CEO like Musk.”
In response to the press launch, the DPWL will report on proposed DOGE cuts and their impression on working folks, have American employees clarify what’s taking place, and write suggestions for the way the federal government can work extra effectively.
“The government can work for billionaires, or it can work for working people—but not both,” stated AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler in a press launch. “Elon is just getting started. He has already tried to force workers doing essential services—including at the FAA and air traffic controllers even after the tragedy at Washington National Airport—to retire, gained access to the Treasury Department’s payment system with everyone’s private data, and is declaring entire government agencies like USAID shut down and blocking workers from accessing the building and their email.”
Shuler careworn that her objective was to assist People entry lifesaving requirements like clear meals and secure remedy. She emphasised that she represents 63 labor unions that embrace 15 million American employees who had belief her to steer AFL-CIO, and he or she is prepared to battle to get what employees deserve.
“We will hold DOGE and Elon Musk accountable because we are certain that the people who keep our food and medicine safe know more about how to make government efficient than an outsider whose companies benefit from the very agencies he is infiltrating,” she added.
In a YouTube video tackle, Shuler stated the DPWL began from an “unprecedented” and “overwhelming” second of “being bombarded with news every hour” of DOGE making an attempt to “gut the government agencies and the services that all of us rely upon, things like Medicare, Medicaid, [and] VA benefits.”
On Jan. 27, President Donald Trump fired Nationwide Labor Relations Board Common Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo and Gwynne Wilcox, the primary Black member of the NLRB, successfully shutting down the group. The NLRB is a federal company that enforces labor legal guidelines and protects the rights of staff.
However Wilcox isn’t happening with out a battle. On Wednesday, she introduced that she is suing Trump over the firing. Wilcox’s lawsuit stated her firing was a “blatant violation” of the Nationwide Labor Relations Act and a part of a “string of openly illegal firings.”
The DPWL is likely one of the most reactive, progressive—and, properly, hilariously titled—strikes since DOGE let its wrecking ball unfastened on the federal authorities. Nevertheless, the true check will come within the months forward as labor leaders and Trump’s billionaire buddies conflict over the rights of the American workforce.
