It’s curious, isn’t it? Today is Wednesday the 13th, but that’s not an unlucky or frightening day. If it were Friday the 13th we’d be in another boat altogether. The superstition is strong on that day. Wednesday, not so much.
But why? 13 is an unlucky number, so why isn’t Wednesday or Monday the 13th just as cursed? Well, it turns out Friday has simply been considered a day of misfortune for centuries, though it’s unclear why. Some believe it was the day Christ was crucified. Others simply find it a foreboding day for even murkier reasons. Combine that with the unlucky number 13—a day that sits outside so many of our customs (12 days of Christmas, 12 months etc)—and you have the answer.
The 1907 Thomas W. Lawson novel Friday The Thirteenth is about a stockbroker who chooses the day to crash the stock market.
Whatever the case, we’re lucky to have this month’s 13th fall on a Wednesday instead of a Friday if you ask me. And I got very lucky with my Wordle today, so the proof is in the pudding.

The Very Helpful Hint: I would not want my cooking described this way.
And the answer is . . . .
See, I told you I got lucky. I think I solved this Wordle in under 30 seconds actually. I chose brake because it has a lot of common letters and it got me two green boxes just like that. Wordle Bot wagged its finger at me for this choice which it always does when you don’t pick crane. But here’s the thing: While brake normally gets you down to 135 / 2,309 possible remaining solutions, today it got me down to just three.
Yep, that’s much better than crane this time, and wildly lucky. My unluckiness was not guessing the right word next. I guessed blast when the only other choice was bland (though I didn’t realize it at the time, of course). If I’d guessed bland instead, I would have walked away with a win on #2. Sigh. Alas. C’est la vie. Wordle Bot informs me that it, too, would have picked blast so there’s that small consolation.
I still burned this Wordle to the ground. Take that Wordle Bot!
And have a lucky Wednesday, dearest Wordlers. May the Force of others be with you.
